INTRODUCTION
We have been sharing the therapeutic benefits of essential oils for over 30 years. Starting out as therapists in the early 1970s, we were privileged to be involved in the emerging practice of aromatherapy. We experienced first hand the fantastic positive effects of essential oils on the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of our clients. It was clear to us then that aromatherapy could produce powerful results and we’ve maintained a strong commitment to its traditional principles ever since.
We started our business with the aim of bringing the benefits of essential oils to as many people as possible. To this day we continue to use our extensive knowledge and experience to develop skin, bath and bodycare that transforms a daily routine into something luxurious and deeply beneficial.

WISDOM MEETS WELLBEING
We are proud to trace a direct line back to the very beginnings of modern aromatherapy. Our studies began in the 1970s when Geraldine and Sue both trained under Micheline Arcier, student of aromatherapy founders Marguerite Maury, an Austrian biochemist and skincare pioneer, and Jean Valnet M.D., an expert in the science of essential oils. This association with aromatherapy’s earliest practitioners has provided an ongoing link to the traditional principles of aromatherapy and the benefits essential oils bring when applied in the right way.
THE COMPANY
Since those early days, Geraldine and Sue have maintained a deep passion for teaching, practising and blending oils. In 1985, Aromatherapy Associates was established to share the benefits of aromatherapy through a range of therapeutic-grade products and treatments. We’ve continued to develop and expand, and our products are now sold at exclusive hotels, spas and retail outlets in over 30 countries worldwide.
Our company brings together a team of talented and committed people with unique and complementary skills. With experience in spas, therapy, product development and retail, we understand your business from every angle. Our hands-on approach enables us to provide a comprehensive service at every level. Thanks to our experience we develop products that therapists themselves love to use.

That’s why in 1985 we helped set up the International Federation of Aromatherapists, an organisation dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of aromatherapy across the industry. Essential oils are made up of very small molecules, which means they can easily bring their unique healing properties to every cell of the body. They are traditionally used to help ease muscular aches and pains, improve circulation and ease sinus congestion. They also have a positive effect on the skin, penetrating into the deeper layers to encourage the process of cellular renewal, enhance blood circulation and help problems such as acne, eczema and ageing skin.

Linked to the areas of the brain governing instinct, memory and emotion, our sense of smell is the most primitive of our senses. Through the pathways between smell and the deep centres of the brain, essential oils can have a dynamic effect on our emotional state. OUR AROMATHERAPY TREATMENTS
Our treatments are firmly based on the traditional principles of aromatherapy developed by Marguerite Maury in the 1950s. Using eastern and western massage techniques, they stimulate the nervous system to release congestion and re-balance areas of the body affected by physical or mental stress. At the same time, the essential oils are absorbed into the bloodstream enhancing cell renewal, circulation and detoxification, while their aromas act on the deepest parts of the brain to enhance our mood and emotions.

Over the last 30 years we’ve developed a rich knowledge of plants and their therapeutic properties. As therapists we’ve seen first hand how effective they can be when used in the right way. Using this unique knowledge and skill, we blend the essential oils to enhance their individual benefits and become complementary and highly effective combinations.
At the heart of our company is a collective spirit of energy and enthusiasm for what we do. We’re always learning and continue to apply this knowledge to our treatments, products and services. We’re perfectionists; so whatever it is we set out to do, we’ll only be happy if it’s the very best it can be.
We devise treatments that are more than just a method of application. They are a complete experience that begins with a detailed consultation and ends with a transformed state of being. As well as training therapists in our techniques and products, we teach them about the importance of understanding a client’s individual physical and emotional needs. We believe that by bringing people closer to an emotional connection between health and beauty, we can enhance their overall wellbeing.
PURE, NATURAL AND EFFECTIVE
We love the inexhaustible variety of plants and flowers and the healing properties of their natural oils and extracts. There’s an art and a science to working with them. Taking the purest natural ingredients, we create blends that enhance the oil’s inherent properties, turning them into rich, beautifully scented products that deliver fantastic results.
Every ingredient in every product has a positive role to play. We use bases such as regenerative Damask rose water instead of plain water. We also use vitamin and omega-rich plant oils such as jojoba, evening primrose and arctic strawberry seed oil, and shea and murumuru butters. These have a natural affinity with essential oils, helping them to work to their best potential.
SUSTAINABLE SOURCING
The integrity of our ingredients is vital to us, and we actively source every essential oil and plant extract that goes into our products. Our raw materials are native to some of the most wild and remote places in the world. We work with the farmers who produce them to ensure our ingredients are grown to the highest degrees of purity, quality and ethical standards.
We support fair trade, organic and traditional agriculture and believe plants grown without chemicals have more benefits and fewer side effects for the skin and body. We continue to nurture our passion for essential oils, looking for new sources and new ingredients to use in our products. As with everything we do, we always use our experience to make sure the ingredients we select will bring real benefits to people’s wellbeing.
